July Update
May was always going to be a busy month, having 2 Bank Holidays in it, so here goes, we started off the month at the Catton Hall Classic Car Show, a good little show generally with a good selection of vehicles to look around plus the usual array of trade stands and arena activities taking place.
In May though you do expect to experience the slightly warmer temperatures, wrong, this year it was bitingly cold, even sat in our club tent – that very nearly gave us a hang gliding experience during the process of putting it up, that should have been the warning for the day, I think that when you are a classic car enthusiast and enjoy the shows it is the sort of thing that is just part of the fun. Those that attended, and at times sat huddled in the tent still enjoyed the laughter and banter of the day and went home de-stressed and relaxed.
Bank Holiday Monday saw us again attending the Classic Car Show at Gawsworth Hall just outside Macclesfield. This show always attracts some really spectacular exhibits, the sort of cars that you never see at the more ordinary shows, some of these might even make you drool a little, the show is about the cars and does not contain a lot of trade stands to distract you.
For those that went to Catton Hall the previous day this was like a summer outing, in bluebell wood where we park there was some breeze blowing, but the tent was put to good use yet again, a bit like a revolving door really – sun shine, everyone out – cloudy and hail stones, back in again, all good fun though.
The best part of the day however was the fact that WE WON the best club stand at the show, congratulations to all who supported this show today.
The second weekend in May saw us returning to Cholmondeley Castle Classic car Show, always a brilliant day out, but this year we were really blessed with an excellent pitch with plenty of room to spread out our excellent array of cars that we had taken. Just for a change it was a good weather and we didn’t even need to bother putting the tent up, but everybody still sat around chatting and enjoying themselves. A good display of cars as usual for everyone to admire and enjoy as well as the regular array of trade stands.
The club’s now regular long weekend adventure to Scotland took place from Saturday 15th and returning on Wednesday 19th, a thoroughly enjoyable weekend was had by all with the fancy dress party taking centre stage on the Sunday night, the winner on this occasion was Mick F who did a very good impression of “Dolly Parton”. However the weekend was not quite so good for Wally (I’ve got the best car in the club) and his B, which suffered from a shattered thrust bearing and had to have it brought back home courtesy of the AA.
On Sunday the 23rd one of our virgin club road run planners – John & Marje – gave us what can only be described as a brilliant outing, everything fell right on the day, the weather was an absolute scorcher, the route was superb, with just for a change a “full English” was included for brunch instead of lunch at a pub en route, only a fiver as well. The destination was a waterfall, somewhere south of Bala at the end of a single track road, the setting was superb, for the energetic there were walks available, whilst the non-energetic could just sit, as on this occasion most of us did. The run back was as enjoyable as the outward journey on roads that were made for MG’s.
May Bank Holiday outings will have to wait, but more adventures next month
